Hoe Black Screen in OBS Studio te repareren

OBS Studio is een open source-software waarmee gebruikers hun games of schermen professioneel kunnen streamen. Het heeft platforms voor zowel macOS- als Windows-besturingssysteem. OBS wordt meestal gebruikt door high-end gamers die liever meer controle hebben over het delen van hun scherm in vergelijking met conventionele schermopnamesoftware.

Een probleem heeft OBS al geruime tijd geplaagd waarbij gebruikers een 'zwart scherm' ervaren wanneer ze proberen hun schermen online te delen. Dit probleem doet zich vooral voor op Windows-platforms en -systemen waar er twee grafische opties zijn, dwz toegewijd en geïntegreerd. In dit artikel zullen we alle oplossingen bekijken waarom dit probleem optreedt en wat de stappen zijn om het op te lossen.

Wat veroorzaakt een zwart scherm in OBS Studio?

We hebben een uitgebreid onderzoek gedaan en alle gebruikerscases geanalyseerd waarin het zwarte scherm zich voordeed bij het streamen met OBS. Op basis van onze analyse zijn we verschillende boosdoeners tegengekomen die het probleem mogelijk veroorzaakten. Sommigen van hen worden hier vermeld:

• Dedicated Graphics Interfering: Telkens wanneer u een applicatie of game start, moet het besturingssysteem beslissen of bronnen worden toegewezen vanaf de speciale grafische kaart of via de normale geïntegreerde grafische kaart op het moederbord. Deze selectie kan een negatief effect hebben op de werking van mechanica en OBS kan mogelijk niet goed streamen.
• Beheerdersrechten: aangezien OBS uw volledige scherm deelt, kunnen er gevallen zijn waarin de computer de toegang beperkt en daarom uw inhoud mogelijk niet kan weergeven. Gewoonlijk lost het starten van de applicatie met beheerderstoegang het probleem direct op.
• Conflict bij 32- en 64-bits toepassingen: OBS heeft twee versies van zijn toepassingen, namelijk 32 en 64 bits. De juiste versie moet worden geselecteerd, afhankelijk van het type besturingssysteem dat op uw computer is geïnstalleerd. Als dit niet het geval is, is de applicatie niet compatibel en werkt deze niet correct.
• Compatibiliteitsproblemen: we zijn ook verschillende gevallen tegengekomen waarbij OBS niet compatibel was met de nieuwste versie van Windows. Hier dwingt het starten van de applicatie in de compatibiliteitsmodus de applicatie om te starten en te werken zoals verwacht.
• Overklokken: Overklokken kan de prestaties van uw pc verbeteren, maar het heeft ook nadelige effecten op toepassingen. U kunt proberen overklokken uit te schakelen en kijken of dit het probleem oplost.
• Conflicterende software: er kan ook andere soortgelijke opnamesoftware op de achtergrond draaien. Deze software kan conflicteren met OBS en een race om bronnen veroorzaken, waardoor OBS zeker niet goed zal werken en niet goed zal werken.
• Capture-opties: Er zijn verschillende capture-opties beschikbaar in OBS, bijvoorbeeld volledig scherm of een specifiek venster, enz. De juiste moet worden gekozen bij het vastleggen van inhoud.

Zorg ervoor dat u de oplossingen van bovenaf volgt en effectief naar beneden werkt. Ze zijn gerangschikt in termen van moeilijkheidsgraad en efficiëntie. Veel plezier met het oplossen van problemen!

Oplossing 1: schakel uw computer uit en weer in

Voordat we uitgebreid beginnen met het oplossen van problemen, is het de moeite waard om uw computer van stroom te voorzien. Er waren verschillende gevallen waarin simpelweg power cycling het OBS-zwarte scherm onmiddellijk oploste. Power cycling houdt in dat u uw computer volledig afsluit en ook de voedingsbron verwijdert. Dit dwingt de computer om alle tijdelijke configuraties te verwijderen, dus wanneer u hem opnieuw start, wordt alles opnieuw geïnitialiseerd.

1. Sluit uw computer correct af.
2. Zodra het is uitgeschakeld, haalt u het stopcontact uit het stopcontact of, als u de laptop gebruikt, verwijdert u de batterij .
3. Nu ingedrukt houdt de power knop voor een paar seconden. Dit zorgt ervoor dat al het vermogen wordt afgevoerd.

Na 2-4 minuten wachten, sluit u alles weer aan en controleert u of het probleem is opgelost.

Oplossing 2: de juiste versie van OBS Studio selecteren

OBS komt meestal in twee versies, namelijk 32 en 64 bits. De software wordt in twee versies geleverd, omdat het Windows-besturingssysteem ook in twee versies wordt geleverd. Een groot verschil tussen 32-bits processoren en 64-bits processoren is het aantal berekeningen per seconde dat ze kunnen uitvoeren, wat invloed heeft op de snelheid waarmee ze taken kunnen voltooien. In deze oplossing navigeren we naar de installatiemap van OBS en selecteren we de juiste versie van de software nadat we uw bitversie hebben gecontroleerd.

Eerst controleren we de versie van het besturingssysteem dat op uw computer is geïnstalleerd.

1. Klik met de rechtermuisknop op Deze pc en selecteer Eigenschappen .

2. Eenmaal in de computereigenschappen, kijk onder de subkop van het systeem en controleer het type vóór Systeemtype . Noteer het type besturingssysteem en ga verder met de onderstaande instructies.

Nu zullen we naar de installatiemap van OBS navigeren en de juiste versie van de applicatie starten volgens de bitarchitectuur op uw computer.

1. Druk op Windows + E om de bestandsverkenner te starten. Zoek nu naar OBS in het dialoogvenster en open de bestandslocatie zoals hieronder in de afbeelding wordt weergegeven.

2. Selecteer en open nu de juiste versie van de applicatie, afhankelijk van de bitversie van uw besturingssysteem. Controleer of het probleem is opgelost.

Oplossing 3: de compatibiliteitsmodus wijzigen

We hebben gemengde rapporten ontvangen van de compatibiliteitsmodusoptie die aanwezig is in de applicatie. Volgens sommige gebruikers werd de nieuwste versie van Windows niet ondersteund door de applicatie, daarom moesten ze de compatibiliteit wijzigen naar Windows 7, terwijl sommige gebruikers meldden dat het probleem onmiddellijk werd opgelost door de compatibiliteitsmodus uit te schakelen. Hier kunt u beide methoden proberen en controleren welke voor u werkt. Als dit niet het geval is, zet u de instelling terug naar de standaardinstelling en gaat u verder met de andere oplossingen.

1. Druk op Windows + S, zoek naar OBS, klik met de rechtermuisknop op de applicatie en selecteer Bestandslocatie openen .

2. Klik nu met de rechtermuisknop op het uitvoerbare bestand en selecteer Eigenschappen .

3. Selecteer in de eigenschappen het tabblad Compatibiliteit en vink de optie Dit programma uitvoeren in compatibiliteitsmodus voor aan . Nu kunt u Windows 7 of 8 kiezen.

4. Bewaar aanpassingen en sluit. Probeer nu de applicatie te starten en kijk of het probleem is opgelost.

Oplossing 4: beheerdersrechten toekennen

Een ander probleem waarom u uw scherm of game mogelijk niet correct kunt streamen, is omdat uw toepassing niet over de juiste beheerdersrechten beschikt. Aangezien OBS in feite al uw inhoud en computergebruik online deelt, is het essentieel dat u het beheerdersrechten hebt verleend. In deze oplossing gaan we dat doen en kijken of dit het probleem oplost. Zorg ervoor dat u de optie altijd aangevinkt houdt, zelfs als dit niet het geval is.

1. Navigeer naar de uitvoerbare eigenschappen van OBS zoals we deden in de vorige oplossing.
2. Klik nu op het tabblad Compatibiliteit en vink de optie Dit programma uitvoeren als beheerder aan .

3. Pas wijzigingen toe en sluit af. Start uw computer opnieuw op en start OBS opnieuw. Controleer nu of het probleem is opgelost.

Oplossing 5: de juiste GPU selecteren voor bronnen

Een ander interessant fenomeen dat we tegenkwamen, was dat het niet selecteren van de juiste GPU op basis van de opname die u gebruikt verschillende problemen veroorzaakte, waaronder het zwarte scherm. De uitsplitsing op welke GPU moet worden geselecteerd op basis van het geselecteerde scherm, is als volgt:

• Game-opname: speciale grafische kaart (NVIDIA of AMD).
• Monitor / beeldschermopname: Intel's standaard GPU

Note: This solution is only for users who have a dedicated graphics card installed on their computer.

Here we will signify the methods on how to cater to both the situations. Make sure that you follow them according to your case.

1. Right-click anywhere on your screen and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
2. Once in the control panel, navigate to Manage 3D settings and click on Program Settings.
3. Once in program settings, select the OBS display capture. If you are not able to find the entry, click on Add and look up the software by navigating to its installation directory and selecting the executable from there.

4. Now according to the type of capture you are doing (game or monitor), select the correct graphics processor for the program. In the case down below, NVIDIA’s processor is selected.

5. Save changes and exit. Now restart your computer and launch OBS again. Check if the black screen issue is resolved.

Solution 6: Changing Drive Permission Settings

If your OBS is installed in your primary drive (C), there are chances that probably even your user might have not have full permissions to edit and modify its contents. This is the usual case and the reason why a conventional user is not allowed access to the drive is because of security reasons because all the core operating system files are present. However, according to some user reports, changing the ownership settings of the drive solved the issue instantly. Make sure that you are logged in as an administrator before following this solution.

1. Press Windows + E to launch the File Explorer. Now right-click on your C drive (or whichever drive is set as your main operating system disk) and select Properties.
2. Select the Security tab and then click on Edit in front of permissions.

3. Now select the option of Authenticated users and select the checkbox of Full control.

4. Press Apply to save changes and exit. Restart your computer and start OBS again. Check if the issue is resolved.

Solution 7: Changing Settings of OBS

Another workaround to consider is changing some specific settings of OBS. Usually, OBS allows users to set the configurations according to their own preferences or will. However, in some cases, the custom settings might conflict with the software and cause the black screen. Here we have listed down some of the changes in settings that you have to do in order for OBS to run in optimal settings.

Mode: *Select according to your preference* Screen: *Select according to your game* Priority: *Usually the default one suffices* Sli/crossfire: Check (You can also try unchecking this one later) Force scaling: Uncheck Transparency: Uncheck Framerate lock: Uncheck Record cursor: Check Anti-cheat: Uncheck Overlays: Uncheck

After you have made changes to the settings of OBS, restart it and check if you can stream your screen/games properly without any issues.

Note: You can also change the mode from “Capture any fullscreen application” to “Capture specific window“.

Solution 8: Enabling Multi-adapter compatibility

OBS has a setting of Multi-adapter compatibility which is meant for computers involving SLI or Crossfire technology. SLI/Crossfire is technologies by NVIDIA/AMD which allows users to connect two graphics cards instead of one and utilize them both in your gameplay or applications. Enabling this feature seemed to have fixed the issue of black screen in OBS instantly.

The funny thing is that this fixed the black screen in computers that don’t even have SLI/Crossfire technology installed. To conclude, we can safely say this is a bug in OBS and you have to enable multi-adapter compatibility whether or not you have SLI/Crossfire. You can easily enable this option by selecting the stream and clicking on the gears icon. A new window will pop up from where you can check the option.

Solution 9: Disabling Overclocking

Overclocking allows you to increase the clock rate of your processor until it reaches the threshold temperature set by the manufacturer. Once it reaches the temperature, the clock speed returns back to default so it is cooled down. After it reaches the optimal temperature, its clock speed is increased again and the cycle continues. Overclocking allows users to have better framerates and performance but they aren’t without their share of issues.

We observed that PCs that had overclocking enabled were having the black screen issue in OBS. You should try disabling overclocking and also overclocking related software such as MSI Afterburner and try launching OBS again. If the black screen issue is resolved, consider disabling overclocking for good whenever you are using OBS.

Note: Also try disabling Overlay from GeForce Experience and Windows game bar features. Take into account any additional software features which may provide additional controls over games or video.

Solution 10: Checking for conflicting software

Another reason why you might be experiencing the black screen on your OBS software is that you have additional software running in the background which is also related to screen capture and video recording. This is a very common scenario for users where they ‘think’ that the other third-party software is not running but in reality, it is in the background. In this solution, we will go through all the different software installed on your computer and uninstall all extra software which might be causing the issue.

1. Press Windows + R, type “appwiz.cpl” in the dialogue box and press Enter.
2. Once in the application manager, search for any recording software which you might have installed on your computer. Right-click on it and select Uninstall.

3. You should also check your taskbar for any extra applications running in the background. Right-click on each entry and exit the application.

4. After you are absolutely sure that no program is running the background, run OBS again and check if the issue is resolved.

Solution 11: Reinstalling the application

If all the above methods don’t work and you are still unable to stream your game/screen successfully using OBS, you should consider reinstalling the application entirely. It is possible that you have a corrupt/outdated copy with issues with several modules. All your preset configurations will be lost during this solution so make sure that you have saved all the work that you need.

1. Press Windows + R, type “appwiz.cpl” in the dialogue box and press Enter.
2. Once in the application manager, search for OBS, right-click on it and select Uninstall.

3. Select both options (one of them will be preselected) and click on Uninstall.

4. Restart your computer. Now navigate to OBS Studio’s official website and download the latest version from there. Install it and check if the issue persists in the fresh copy.
